The ACF District # 7 Open Championship will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014, at the Joyce Raye Patterson Center, 100 S. 10th Street, St. Joseph, MO. 64501. We will play 6 rounds only with a 45 minute time limit per game. The tournament should conclude by 3:30-4:00.

We will use the Swiss system as the method of pairings for the tournament. Registration starts at 8:00; play will start at 9:00 a.m. The entry fee will go into the prize fund and given back to the players after some miscellaneous expenses. I want to congratulate John Pestal from Omaha, Nebraska, for winning the District 7 Tournament held here in St. Joseph, Missouri, on August 9, 2014. I always enjoy our friends coming down from Nebraska, Jim Albin and John Pestal and his wife, Betty and our Missouri Checker Association secretary-treasurer, Wilma Wolverton. We want to welcome Quint Hodges and his wife, Janelle, from Arkansas. Hope to see Quint at many future tournaments. We had a friendly pleasant group but very small. It was round robin -- everyone played FAST AND FURIOUS. Following the tournament, several of the players enjoyed having lunch together at a local restaurant.

Because of the dwindling attendance at the District 7 tournaments in recent years, I think I will schedule the District 7 and the Missouri State 3-Move in one tournament for next year as I’ve noticed other states have done this.    George

Our thanks to Joe McDaniel of Oklahoma for donating his prize winnings of $72.50 from the Missouri GAYP tournament to the District 7.   Joe’s donation of $72.50 plus $50 entry fees totaled $122.50. The playing room and trophy engraving of $12.50 were deducted from this total leaving $110 to be divided among players.
